One changed letter. A different website.

Real brand addressinventorydealers.com

Simulated lookalike addressinventorydeaIers.com

The fake address replaces the letter “l” with the letter “i”, shown here as a capital “I”. These letters can look alike. A capital letter alone does not make a different domain.

How the trap works

The login fails. Your password is already stolen.

Criminals may send an email that looks like it came from your company. It may say there is a billing problem, security warning or urgent account issue.

The link opens a copied website. The address may differ by only one letter. A person enters a username and password, sees that the login failed and tries again. In this example, the fake page has already sent the username and password to the criminal. The login does not need to work for the theft to happen.

The failed login may be the only warning. The username and password may already be stolen.
